The "Fellow of the Road" organization was established in 2013, with the understanding that every year more than 5,000 men and women soldiers from disadvantaged backgrounds return to the same challenging reality from which they came from the army. The association was initiated by Natalie Horowitz and Inbal Elisha. The two served as commanders at the Hashomer Farm base, which serves as a training base for soldiers from a background of risk and adjustment difficulties. At this base, the two learned about the difficulties the soldiers are experiencing, the path and effort required of them throughout military service and the emptiness and danger lurking for them upon their release. The two realized that full military service is not enough to ensure integration into society. Their soldiers who come from a risk background do not have a back or a guiding hand that will help them when they become citizens immediately after liberation. in light of  With the same understanding, the two decided to take action and gather people to help the same men and women soldiers. The initial idea included a personal escort program, tailoring an exact suit to the size of the discharged soldier, setting goals and objectives, and at the end - optimal integration in society.

In Israel today, about 200,000 young people are at risk, of whom only about 30% receive limited and partial assistance. Those discharged soldiers, unaccompanied and unsuccessful upon becoming citizens, increase their chances of degenerating into circles of risk and distress.

"I feel like I'm a pillar that the wind is trying to knock down but Amit La' Derech is supporting me from every direction" (Ariel, graduate of the program)

"Fellow of the Road" works to reduce the polarization in Israeli society by accompanying and guiding male and female soldiers from a background of risk, gives them life skills and helps them integrate optimally in citizenship.

In order to ensure optimal integration in society and citizenship, we operate in three main axes: employment, education and soft life skills while empowering and increasing the sense of self-efficacy. The individual work is surrounded by a broad umbrella that helps the young person achieve his goals through academic assistance, partnerships with institutions of higher education and vocational training, employer relations, assistance in emotional therapy, a scholarship system and more.

In fact, each discharged soldier is attached to a personal mentor, a mentor (volunteer), who helps him build a personal plan; Setting goals, determining ways of achieving them, developing practical skills and assisting in the exercise of rights.

The mentor is for the young person a significant figure who creates an empowering relationship with him, helps and helps him chart the path in the areas of employment, education, housing and more. In addition, the young people participate in professional content workshops and sessions that support their personal program and provide them with tools and knowledge that will help them with citizenship such as: financial management, decision making, employment and more. Every young person who joins the program experiences social involvement during the year of his activity and is expected to continue to contribute for others where he identifies a need.

This is the opportunity to do something for someone else, not a relative, someone else's child, and see it as yours. This is the decision to be significant for someone else, young, maybe a little lost, who believes there is a better tomorrow!

Together you will build a personal plan, in which you will mark goals and set goals on various and varied topics such as; What to study and when ?, Building a personal budget and how to manage financially? How to choose a profession? What skills do I need to acquire to be successful? and so'.

We assume you have read about our contribution. Thousands of discharged soldiers are waiting for a hug and escort and we need your donation to enable them to do so.

The path consists of a personal escort program tailored to young people when they become citizens from military service, which includes two components:

'' When you are discharged from the army you only think about how you will survive that day ...

The question of  "What I want to be when I grow up" is a privilege. You're just preoccupied with the thoughts of how to close the debts, how to pay the rent and feelings of fear and frustration overwhelm you ''
